Rugby celebrates Coventry’s summer of sport at Coventry Sports Week

People are being invited to give rugby a ‘try’ during this year's Coventry Sports Week.

As part of Coventry's Summer of Sport, rugby clubs from across Coventry and Warwickshire will join together to promote the game during an action-packed day at Broadgate Square in Coventry City Centre.

People will be able take part in free rugby activities between 10am and 4pm on Friday, 12th August. Coventry Rugby Club, Wasps, Coventry Bears, Engage! and the RFU will all be showcasing their skills and hosting a number of fun, interactive sessions for people to get involved in and have a go at.

In support of the recently launched City of Rugby initiative, the event and will highlight some of the work it has achieved teaching the core values of rugby teamwork, respect, integrity, enjoyment and discipline to schoolchildren in the city and promoting the recently launched O2 Touch franchise, which is now enabling fun, fitness touch rugby sessions to anyone every night of the week.

Attendees will also be able to find out more about the upcoming 4 Nations rugby league double header that is coming to Coventry on 5 November at the Ricoh Arena. The Rugby Football League's (RFL) 4 nations trophy will be on hand for the public to have their free photograph taken and you can meet the England Rugby league mascot.

The Wasps Interactive Zone (WIZ) will be on hand to test your skills, speed and agility and watch out for the eagerly anticipated mascot race involving Nellie, Sting, Big Blue and Grubba!

The rugby day gives people in the area the perfect opportunity to test out their skills and learn new techniques for free.

All of the local rugby clubs will provide an action-packed day of masterclasses, showcases and demonstrations suitable for all ages and abilities.

With the Rio 2016 Rugby 7’s competition just around the corner and Coventry hosting the rugby league 4 Nations double header in November, there has never been a better time to try out the sport

Coventry Sports Week will take place between Monday, August 8 and Friday, August 12 and will give people in the city the opportunity take part in wide range of free sports activities including climbing, tennis, gymnastics, football, rugby, table tennis, wheelchair racing and wheelchair basketball.
