Henley College awarded AoC Sport Rugby Union College of the Year 2015
Henley College Coventry have been recognised nationally after picking up the AoC Sport Rugby Union College of the Year 2015 at the National Sports Conference on Wednesday 17th June at the Ricoh Arena.
It has been an amazing year for the college who in partnership with Coventry Rugby Club develop talented 16-19 year old rugby players through a bespoke study programme at Henley College Coventry.
On the field the rugby programme has a strong reputation for its unique training and playing programme. The playing squad have excelled and developed a strong culture which embeds the principles of rugby football union.
This season the talented squad have tasted success winning the AoC Sport Regional 7s competition, AoC Sport National 7s runners up and returned from the Portugal Youth Festival 2015 tournament Plate winners.
Away from the field the combined academic and playing study programme run by Academies Manager Pete Glackin has engaged fully with the community. This has seen learners from a range of subject areas working extensively in gaining rugby union related qualifications and working in local schools. Learners have coached on the Coventry Rugby community camps as well as working with Wasps Rugby assisting on home match days.
Throughout the year mixed touch rugby has also allowed all learners in the college to participate, promoting the core values of the game and developing leaders and volunteers of the future.
