Give rugby a ‘try’ during Coventry Sports Week
People are being invited to give rugby a ‘try’ during Coventry Sports Week.
Rugby clubs from across Coventry and Warwickshire will join together to promote the game during an action-packed day of rugby organised as part of Coventry Sports Week.
People will be able take part in free rugby activities at Broadgate in the city centre between 10am and 4pm on Friday, July 31.
Coventry Rugby Club, Wasps and the RFU will all be showcasing their skills and hosting a number of sessions for people to get involved in.
Engage! has helped to organise the event and will highlight some of the work it has achieved teaching the core values of rugby teamwork, respect, integrity, enjoyment and discipline to schoolchildren in the city.
Attendees will also be able to find out more about Rugby League from the Coventry Bears.
Wasps’ ambassador and former Wasps and England winger Paul Sackey will be on hand to talk about his professional career and offer advice, support and encouragement to fans and players.
Tom Clift, programme manager of Engage!, said:
The rugby day gives people in the area the perfect opportunity to test out their skills and learn new techniques for free.
All of the local rugby clubs will provide an action-packed day of masterclasses, showcases and demonstrations suitable for all ages and abilities.
With the Rugby World Cup just around the corner and just over two weeks until we welcome the Webb Ellis cup as part of the UK wide RWC Trophy tour on Sunday 16 August at War Memorial Park, there has never been a better time to try out the sport.
Coventry Sports Week will take place between Tuesday, July 28 and Friday, July 31 and will give people in the city the opportunity take part in wide range of free sports activities including climbing, tennis, golf, football, rugby and basketball.
The programme of activities has been organised by Coventry City Council with support from Coventry Sports Network, Coventry Health and Wellbeing, EnV and Engage!.
