Barkers’ Butts shortlisted for award as RUGBY CLUB OF THE YEAR
Great news! Barkers’ Butts RFC has been shortlisted for the top award of NATIONAL RUGBY CLUB OF THE YEAR 2015.
Judges have put Barkers in the Top Six in the country out of hundreds of nominated rugby clubs to go forward to the National Rugby Club Awards at Twickenham on September 2.
The judges said Barkers was “the Warwickshire Club which makes fun the key element”.
Barkers Club President Mick Baines said the nomination was “fantastic news”.
He said:
It’s a great honour to be recognised as a friendly and fun place to play rugby at all ages. There are some great clubs here in the Midlands who are producing the stars of today and tomorrow in our great game.
It is indeed an honour to be recognised for all our hard work.
To be in the top 6 for Rugby Club of the Year is a fantastic achievement for the club and one that I think we should celebrate in style, especially in World Cup year
The winner will be announced at the gala dinner and awards ceremonyin the famous Rose Room at Twickenham attended most of the top names in English rugby including many of the England team just days before the opening game of the Rugby World Cup.
Awards events director Barry Clayton announced Barkers’ top six nomination in an email letter to the club saying:
Congratulations - I am delighted to announce that Barkers’ Butts RFC has been shortlisted in the Rugby Club of the year category.
The fact that your club has been chosen out of several hundred entrants to be in the final six is especially impressive as our judges had some very difficult decisions to make in the first judging process due to the high standard in each category.
The club will be up against Gosford All Blacks RFC, Oxon; Credition rfc; Bishops Stortford RFC; Plymouth Argaum RFC; and Colchester RFC.
Other awards will include teams and coaches of the year and player of the year. Amongst the judges are former internationals Jeremy Guscot and Jeff Probyn.
Professional Player of the Year nominations include Bath’s George Ford, Billy Vunipola of Saracens, Jonathan Joseph of Bath, Worcester’s Chris Pennell, Thomas Waldrom of Exeter and Samu Manoa of Northampton.
